Strengthening its commitment to community education, public safety and sustainable development, SIUC collaborated with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), through IPD Subang Jaya, to organise an educational awareness programme titled “A Talk to Raise Students’ Awareness of Safety, Crime Prevention, and the Role of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) in Society” on 8 January 2026. The initiative aimed to enhance public understanding of crime prevention, personal safety, substance abuse prevention and responsible citizenship, contributing to SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.
Designed to extend educational opportunities beyond conventional classroom learning, the programme was open to SIUC students, alumni, local residents and members of the wider community, reflecting the institution’s commitment to making practical knowledge accessible to individuals from diverse backgrounds. By providing opportunities for participation beyond its enrolled student population, SIUC sought to strengthen community awareness, encourage lifelong learning and empower individuals with essential knowledge to protect themselves, their families and their surrounding communities.
The programme featured educational presentations and knowledge-sharing sessions delivered by experienced PDRM officers, covering three key areas of public concern. Crime prevention and scam awareness focused on recognising criminal activities, identifying potential fraud and understanding preventive measures against common threats. Narcotics awareness addressed the dangers of substance abuse, its consequences for physical and mental well-being, and the importance of prevention. Road safety education highlighted traffic regulations, responsible road-user behaviour and practical measures to reduce accidents and protect public safety.
Beyond delivering practical safety knowledge, the programme encouraged greater understanding of the role of law enforcement institutions in maintaining public order, protecting communities and upholding the rule of law. Through direct engagement with police officers, participants were provided with opportunities to strengthen their awareness of civic responsibilities, community cooperation and the importance of contributing to peaceful and secure societies. These educational components directly support SDG 16 by promoting public awareness of justice, institutional responsibilities and community safety.
The collaboration also demonstrated the importance of partnerships between higher education institutions and government agencies in addressing community needs. By connecting professional expertise from PDRM with SIUC’s educational outreach efforts, the initiative created opportunities for knowledge exchange and public engagement on issues affecting everyday life. Making such awareness programmes accessible to alumni, local residents and the wider community reinforces SIUC’s commitment to inclusive education and the dissemination of SDG-related knowledge beyond campus boundaries.
Through this initiative, SIUC continues to strengthen its role in promoting community-based SDG education, lifelong learning, preventive health awareness and responsible citizenship. The programme reflects the institution’s commitment to empowering communities through accessible educational activities while contributing to safer, healthier and more resilient societies.
