Spectrum International University College (SIUC) is deeply committed to water sustainability and access, in line with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6: Clean Water and Sanitation. The university has implemented a number of proactive initiatives to ensure responsible water use, improve water security, and raise awareness both on campus and within the wider community.
Provision of Free Drinking Water
SIUC provides free access to clean drinking water for all students, staff, and visitors through filtered water machines located throughout the campus. This initiative encourages the use of refillable bottles, significantly reducing plastic waste and promoting sustainable hydration practices.
Cooperation with Governmental Bodies on Water Security
SIUC actively collaborates with local, regional, national, and global stakeholders to strengthen water security efforts. These partnerships include:
Local: Collaboration with Air Selangor to ensure reliable water supply and infrastructure support.
Regional: Engagement with LUAS (Lembaga Urus Air Selangor) on water resource management.
National: Cooperation with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability for compliance, reporting, and advocacy.
Global: Alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDG 6.
Promotion of Conscious Water Usage on Campus
SIUC actively promotes water-saving behaviours through on-campus awareness campaigns. Posters, digital signage, and workshops encourage practices such as:
Refilling water bottles instead of buying bottled water
Reporting leaks immediately
Turning off taps when not in use
Using only the necessary amount of water
These messages are prominently displayed to foster a culture of conservation among students and staff and the community.
