SIUC places high value on sustainable resource management and is fully committed to reducing our environmental footprint through responsible water consumption practices. In line with our sustainability goals and the principles of SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SIUC actively monitors and records its total monthly water usage across the entire campus.
SIUC’s water supply is sourced from two primary channels:
Main Supply from Air Selangor
SIUC receives treated water from Air Selangor Sdn Bhd, the official water supply concessionaire for Selangor. This treated water is sourced primarily from surface water bodies, such as rivers and lakes, which are channeled through dams and reservoirs before being processed at licensed treatment plants and distributed for institutional use. Air Selangor ensures that the water provided meets national quality standards for safe and efficient consumption.
Rainwater Harvesting System
SIUC benefits from the shared sustainability infrastructure provided by The Main Place Mall, where the university campus is located. The mall has implemented a centralized rainwater harvesting system that collects and stores rainwater, which is reused for non-potable purposes such as landscape irrigation, general cleaning, and toilet flushing throughout the building. This environmentally responsible setup reduces reliance on treated mains water and supports overall water efficiency within the premises.
In 2024, SIUC began implementing a centralized system to track total water usage monthly (in cubic meters) across the entire university, covering all academic buildings, administrative offices, and shared facilities. Our monthly water usage ranges between 2,000 to 2,800 cubic meters, depending on operational demands.
