Spectrum International University College (SIUC) is fully committed to fostering a gender-inclusive, family-supportive, and equitable academic and professional environment. In line with our values of inclusivity and Sustainable Development Goal 5 (Gender Equality), SIUC has implemented a formal Maternity and Paternity Policy, effective January 2024, to support both students and staff before and after childbirth or adoption.
The policy guarantees flexible, fair, and supportive arrangements to ensure that pregnancy or parenting does not create a barrier to educational or professional progression. Among the provisions, female employees are entitled to fully paid maternity leave of up to 98 consecutive days, while male employees may receive up to 7 days of paid paternity leave, with additional flexibility upon request. These benefits are protected under Malaysian labour law and institutional commitments to family care.
Pregnant students or student-parents are supported through academic flexibility, including deferred assessments, online access, and customised study plans coordinated by the Registrar’s Office. This ensures continuity in learning without academic penalty.
SIUC also offers childcare support, including on-campus nursing spaces and child-friendly policies that accommodate breastfeeding needs during work or class hours. To ensure long-term support, reentry programmes are offered for students and staff returning from maternity, paternity, or parental leave. These include refresher classes, counselling, and mentorship to help reintegrate into the academic or work environment.
